Relative newcomer Jason Huebbe is quickly making a name for himself in the amateur heavyweight ranks. At 5-0 Huebbe now owns the newly minted Extreme Challenge title of Super Fight Series champion.
Huebbe made quick work of former champion Parnell Davis on Aug. 11 in Burlington, Iowa. Davis tapped to an armbar with one second left in the opening round of the tournament's finale.
Huebbe now has a pro contract waiting for him once he decides to turn professional.
"The kid is so young," matchmaker Chad Bergmeier said. "He's 19 and just learning, but he's already really good. He's quick and strong and doesn't get rattled. He's got a lot going for him."
In the 145-pound Super Fight Series semifinal Royce Arnold took home a unanimous decision (30-27 on all three judges' scorecards) over hometown favorite Joseph Estrada.
The fight was close until Arnold connected with a right hand late in the second round, knocking Estrada to the canvas where only the bell saved him. Arnold then controlled the third round to advance to the finals.
"Arnold looked very good, very poised," Bergmeier said. "That was a tough environment for a visiting fighter to come into and it didn't seem to phase him at all."
Arnold will face the winner of the Aug. 25 semifinal held at the Quad-Cities Waterfront and Convention Center in Bettendorf. That fight – undefeated Chuck Pieritz vs. Sinjen Ruby – is part of Extreme Challenge 218 sponsored by the Isle Bettendorf. For more information on that event click here.
