Quincy, Ill., was the site for an early Fourth of July fireworks show when undefeated professionals Kalel Robinson and Justin DeMoney entered the cage to lay claim to the Extreme Challenge interim Lightweight Title.
Both fighters worked out opening round jitters and the obligatory feeling-out process before engaging in a battle that had the crowd on its feet in approval.
"It was quite a show they put on once they got past the nerves," promoter Chad Bergmeier said of the main event from Extreme Challenge 88. "With Chris (Mickle) oversees we decided to create an interim belt until our champ returns home."
Both DeMoney (7-2-2) and Robinson (9-0) tried to take full advantage in the 155-pound fight. In the end, Robinson secured the win with a tough 29-28, 29-28, 29-28 unanimous decision.
"These guys fought their hearts out and really put on a show. They did the 155-pound division proud," Bergmeier said.
